Are you someone who is considering having your long locks cut for a charitable cause or just because you want a new style? Please don’t just have it cut off and swept away to be put into a bin at the hairdressers. There are so many people around the world who could benefit from it. Hair is a valuable thing and even more so when you are a person who doesn’t have any due to Alopecia.

To be able to give to someone who has no hair, is a kind, generous and rewarding thing to do. Your hair that has taken so long to grow could be made into a beautiful wig for someone who really needs it. Not only will it give them the feeling of having their hair back, it will give them confidence, a return of self esteem, and allow them to be…..just like everyone else.

ALL HAIR DONATED GOES TO ALOPECIA SUFFERERS.

At Periwig Consultants we see many many people suffering with hair loss and sometimes the only option for people is to have a hair piece or wig made for them. The only problem is is that hair is currently in very short supply throughout the world.
We often receive calls from people wanting to donate hair, so I have put together this short document which answers a number of questions and gives guidance as to what to do if you would like to donate

Who do Periwig Consultants send the hair onto?

Hair sent and donated to Periwig Consultants is forwarded onto Freedom Wigs in New Zealand a wig manufacturer who make wigs for those suffering with alopecia. Take a look at their website at www.freedomwigs.co.nz.

Who will benefit from the hair?

Children, and also adults will benefit from the hair that is sent. The wigs made by Freedom Wigs Ltd are suitable for anyone suffering with Alopecia.

Do you ever sell hair?

No. We (Periwig) do not make any profit from the receipt of this hair. There is, currently, a hair shortage and this causes delays in getting wigs made for those who really need them. We are doing this purely to raise awareness of the worldwide hair shortage and to help Freedom wigs obtain as much hair as possible to satisfy the demand they have for their custom made wigs.

Will you (the sender) receive payment for the hair?

You may decide that you do not want to give the hair away (donate), but would rather receive some payment for yourself or for a selected Charity. This is possible. The price you receive will be based on the weight of hair.

If you wish to receive payment or have the money sent onto a Charity please indicate this within the letter you enclose with your hair donation.

Do you need specific colours and hair from ethinic minorites?

We need all hair from all ethnic groups and of all colours.

Requirements for hair donation.

Freedom Wigs only use unprocessed hair to manufacture their wigs.

Is my hair suitable for donation?

In order for your hair to be used by Freedom Wigs it needs to be a minimum of 12 inches or 30cm long, it should not have been permanently coloured (hair with a rinse, tint or permanent colour cannot be used) and not permed.

Can hair cut a long time ago be used?

Yes, as long as the hair is still is in good condition and hasn’t been permed or coloured.

I want to donate my hair what do I need to do?

1. You should wash and thoroughly dry your hair.
2. Place it securely in a pony tail with an elastic band before having it cut by a hairdresser or cutting it yourself.
3. Cut the ponytail off above the elastic band and then place more elastic bands along the length of the hair at intervals, four should be enough, (this is to make sure that all the hair is kept flowing in the same direction from root to tip, this is very important). Hair that has been cut and placed in a ponytail then plaited is also okay.
4. Place the ponytail in a plastic bag (it's best to cut the corners off the plastic bag so, if the hair is a bit damp, then it won't go mouldy!)
5. Send to:

Periwig Consultants Ltd, 2 Cathedral Road, Cardiff, CF11 9LJ
